- Female patients should avoid urine collection during menstrual period.
- At the beginning of the urine collection, empty the urinary bladder and discard this urine. This time represents the beginning of the 24 hour period (e.g. 8 a.m. on Day 1). At the end of the 24 hour period (i.e. 8 a.m. on Day 2), empty the urinary bladder and add this specimen to the urine containers.
- Pass urine first into a clean and dry container and then transfer immediately into the urine container.
- The urine container should be stored in a cool place during collection.
- Return the urine containers to laboratory shortly after the collection.
