Our story began in 1981, the founding pathologists, Dr. Laurence L.T. HOU and the late Dr. CHAN Woon Cheung established Chan & Hou Medical Laboratories Ltd (Chan & Hou) in response to the need for quality medical laboratory services. Over the past 30 years, with consultant pathologist Dr. CHAN Wai Kong and other professional medical technologists joining the group; Chan & Hou has evolved into a modernized and dynamic company, fully equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation.

In the past decade, we have significantly increased our exposure to emerging markets of local and overseas clients. In 2014, we have established the Research & Development team and in 2018, we have added the Precision Medicine laboratory service in addition to our existing five Departments:

• Chemical Pathology
• Haematology
• Clinical Microbiology & Infection
• Immunology and Medical Genetics (Molecular Genetics).

We have more than 90 professionally trained staff, including pathologists, registered medical

technologists, radiographers, phlebotomists, scientists, administrative, marketing, accounting, as well as information technology and courier personnel. Our main laboratory is located in Wong Chuk Hang with other branches covering Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories to provide phlebotomy and other examination services such as X-ray, ultrasonography, FibroScan Plus (liver stiffness and steatosis), DEXA, mammography and electrocardiography. We operate our own courier team for efficient and reliable specimen pick-up service. Moreover, our laboratory information system (LIS) is a traceable and auditable system to ensure the test results are released in a secured manner.

Our clients are mostly doctors and specialists from private practice, with others from the public

hospitals, private hospitals, medical group practices, private laboratories, non-profit organizations,

universities, research institutes, pharmaceutical and insurance companies.

An accredited laboratory has specific requirements in both technical and management aspects. This includes daily operations, specimens handling, storage & transportation, laboratory equipment, medical testing, reporting, document control, working environment and safety meets the international standard.
